| Last year with the good price of corn and the high probability of corn market going down, I took out ECO SCO. Thought it was a no brainer.
My area received 2 very timely rains (not a lot of rain) and our county had record crop. We won't get paid anything because increased county yield was more than drop in fall price.
I am not blaming crop insurance agent because it was my choice and he did explain the risk. They do make bank when selling this extra policy.
Last year I was confident that price was going to drop and thought this was a way to protect myself.
Problem I encountered, I thought this was protecting me from the price drop, so I didn't sell enough new crop. Again my decision, my fault.
The (good insurance) promoted way to many acres of corn. Now we overproduced and have terrible basis.
The price kept dropping after the fall price was set. Which again, I didn't sell enough new crop.
I wish government would stay out of our business. This year I will not be taking out ECO SCO.
I feel if my county average wasn't so high, it would have worked.
