The biggest thing I learned in 2023 is the scary looking drought maps do not correlate with the amount of moisture needed to grow crops in the I states. All it shows is deviation from normal rainfall.


I agree. Not just I states though. 2023 was one of the worst crop years since my first crop in 1974. And yet as close as 10 miles to my northwest was some of the best dryland corn ever raised on those farms (beans not so much). Timely rain can make all the difference.
