southern MN | Back in the 80s farmers owned, or we’re making payments on their land base. And rented just a little to fill in.
Today it seems most are looking for investors and own very little land themselves.rent a majority of what they operate.not much interest in owning land, just rent more.
It will be interesting how a 1980s situation would play out with these conditions.wont be as much of a land base to call in. Will the investors be diversified enough to handle the farmland devaluing, will thry be able to snap up much more farmland.
It’s always the same but different.
Clearly long term debt for a long term sort of stable asset is far better than debt for a 7 year shiny implement. But when the chips are down it all becomes mortgaged to the hilt. Just play Monopolyand once you flip over the second property for a loan, you spiral down with everything flipped over and no way to pay back anything.its not like it really matters what you have loans on and what you own, it will all go in anyhow.
