Latimer, Iowa (north central)
Haven’t seen this mentioned here but in the last month Microsoft has bought 784 acres of farmland in Iowa and Wisconsin for 116 million dollars. Will be used to build data centers on. The Iowa land is 10 miles from Des Moines and is currently being farmed. Wisconsin land is farmland as well from the articles.

I realize this is being developed but why are they paying this price? What resources are they needing to locate in these areas? What incentives are our local governments giving them to draw them in? I know they take an extreme amount of water for cooling. It would seem if they are paying 148,000 per acre for large swaths of land they need more than just the land.
