I’ve had more trouble with PVC ball valves than anything. Don’t have a good solution other than if it’s like what NIBCO called a tru-Union that you can unscrew the nuts on each side and remove the cartridge with the ball in it.
I would say if it’s got to turn, go for broke. If it’s not that essential leave it alone!
