Missouri | It's a Cobett with a deeper than recommended pipe under it being gravity fed off a pond. Should find plenty of arguments about them in a search on here. What ever night we had the -27 wind chills it had a quarter moon of ice on the south side that morning, so I left it and came back that evening and it was gone. The ball should really be set lower than it is to stop the wind from causing that ice from starting, but I haven't been wanting to stick my hands in there to adjust during this cold stretch. This one is 1000' from bedding and bunk line and has 45 cows and a couple calves on it.
It takes a few years, but once a set of cows learns to go drink one or two at a time they can keep one that's set up right open until it gets down into miserable temps. |
