Subject: RE: Cattle waterers

Eastern NE KS
Ritchie Thrifty King, 2 hole serves 80 cows. Outdoor temp was 3*f this morning. Waterer valve was open this am. Tonight low is -11*f. If we go 3 nights like that I fear valve will give trouble. Heated water and time fixes that.

We swapped in a low pressure valve. Water has a 16-18' drop for supply. Dad designed the syphon/plumbing. It's about 4' into the dam with a riser to fill the line and a check valve going down to the pond. This way he did not drain the pond.

Water carries dissolved air that will accumulate in the riser and break the syphon about a 30 day cycle. 4.5 gallons of water will fill the line.
