Subject: RE: Relay cropping beans into oats?

Latimer, Iowa (north central)
On oats: Plant Reins variety oats, plant them early even frost seeding, plant on 7.5 inch spacing with quality seeder, have manure down for fertility with at least 100 units of N equivalent, plant 3 bu per acre. Has worked pretty well here but we are cooler climate in north Iowa.

When I have tried relay cropping it has hurt the first crop yield more than we have gained but trying again next year. Practical farmers of Iowa has a video up right now about relay cropping that you might want to check out too. If you you tube practical farmers of Iowa and this I would think you would find it. "In Field View: Relay Intercropping Cereal Rye and Soybeans - Practical Cover Croppers" I know the farmers that they interviewed and they do a nice job.
