I had to do some research about scanners, because I had never used one before.
This is the scanner I talked the Boss into getting.
.

.
Wireless
Handheld
Rechargeable
.
I think the only downside of this model is the charge port is a micro USB port.
Nope, I have not had any problems with it, just letting you know.
.
When scanning in our parts, I was using a laptop.
The scanner will scan about 20 feet or more away. I never found the max distance.
I would place the cursor in the SKU box in the Units tab, and scan the bar code with the scanner.
Whatever box the cursor is in, that is where the information goes when you scan the bar code.
MANY times, the SKU is also the part number.
Place the cursor in the Unit_Type in the Units tab, and scan the same bar code again.
In the Unit_Name column, type in the part name.
.
Part name is where you can make things real easy to find.
Because, Part Name Search tab, searches ANY letter combination you put in the box, ANYWHERE in the box.
Lower case, uppercase, it doesn't matter.
For instance, in the Part Name Search tab, type the word "part" in the search box.
You should see 2 lines come up that have the word "part" in them.
.
"But, Mark what does that mean to me?"
Ok, IF at the end of every part name , you type "Combine", if it belongs to the combine.
Now, in the Part Name Search tab, when you type "Combine", it will show all parts for the combine.
.
We have well over 400 parts in our inventory, and adding more all the time.
The excel sheet works just as fast as when I first made it.
.
Have a good day
