Subject: RE: Freeze Miser

I’ve got an IBC tote that I converted into a watering tank for my main goat finishing barn. The top was cut off down to the bottom two squares of cage so it’s probably around 16” tall. In the tank is a Ritchie valve set about 4” below the tank edge and the freeze miser is at a T about 2” above the valve. Hose length is probably around 80’ and runs overhead before coming down into the pen. Typically on a cold night the goats quit keeping it drunk down below the tank level about 2 hours after dark. Very rough math and estimations would have it around 100-150 gallon in a 12 hour night of minimal consumption. They usually can keep up with it during daylight if it’s still below freezing. There’s probably around 20k pounds of goats on it. Never had it freeze up. The valve just below the T will on a night in the low teens but it often unthaws on its own during the day 95% of the time if it can get near 35 the next day.
