Alsace 47°52'46"N 7°24'30"E | The time of day sounds quite odd to me, therefore i will make a wild suggestion:
Is it possible that when darkness came in you switched on all lights and there was not enough electric power to run the AFS up to specs? you should be able to reproduce the phenomenon also by daylight by simply switching everything on that you switched on running in the dark.
Just a wild suggestion, but I happened to burn an alternator on a tractor not so long ago by running all night with all lights, incl. road headlights on.
I think special consideration has to be taken to the operating voltage.
Just a wild guess......
