Iowa | Very good point. Industries promote the products that make them the most money. I always tell my wife that- almond growers, orange growers, packers, food processors-practically everyone has their own version of a checkoff that promotes their benefit. In many cases corn/soy are left behind in our marketing promotions because we’re primarily midwestern and not into the latest fads that run the coasts.
You bring up a really good point about processing, in that these groups understand that the more they can process a product into “value added” the more dollars they can recoup. The margin on a protein meal with liquid smoke processed into a “specialty burger” is probably 10x that of regular beef, where they can only control the last part of the pricing spectrum. | |
