Subject: Bicep tendon surgery

Earlville, NY
Anybody have it done? I tore a bicep tendon 2 years ago; since I still had some use and good grip strength, GP doctor recommended against surgery since I still had decent use, and that surgery wasn't that successful. Few months ago I read some articles about surgery success, went back to see my regular doc (first was not my regular) he also said since it had been so long probably couldn't work, but I wanted to see if there was any kind of rehab that might help get some more strength back so he sent me to an orthopedic practice nearby that works a lot with athletes from the nearby university. The specialist was like 'yeah we can still fix that pretty easily'. Will take a cadaver tendon, sew it onto the bicep and attach to bone. I need an MRI in a few weeks to make sure there's no unseen issues, then schedule the surgery; 1 hour in and out procedure then a 3-4 month recovery. 6-8 weeks in an arm brace with no lifting at all, then start rehab with slowly increasing weight.
I've been able to use the arm but am limited in how much weight it will lift and how far. One more example of always getting a second opinion or seeing a specialist.
