Buy romaine lettuce heads and chop it up yourself. I've kept heads of romaine in the fridge in a ziplock bag for over a month and it was still crispy. The head lettuce seems to have a short shelf life.
Better yet, plant some lettuce in a pot and harvest it as you need it. Always fresh.
