My first guess in cost. A diesel is more money on the initial investment and most people are strapped tight enough buying a big ticket toy. Also average Joe has no business owning a diesel with the need for more maintenance and the gas and go mentality most have. Add in the cost of emissions with the new diesels, the price tag really climbs.
