Neighbors showed me a trick to checking melons. They raise Charleston Gray and Crimson Sweet and it at least works on those two varieties.When you think they are close to ready, do a two handed cpr compression on the melon. If it sounds as though it pops or cracks, it's ready. Has been 100% for me.
