Subject: detroit diesel running cool-bad gauge or sender?

I've got a 1980 International straight truck with a 6V92 detroit diesel in it. It has an aftermarket gauge for the coolant temp as the original one doesn't work. It has always ran about 180 to 185 degrees on the water temp. The other day I noticed it only got to about 140 and just stayed there. Thinking maybe gauge or sending unit is bad but not sure where to start. Coolant level is good in the truck reservoir.

TIA
