Planting green does not always help with slug issue here.... your mileage may vary.

The last couple of years our independent consultant has been scouting early spring for slugs. He will recommend tillage if slug pressure is moderate to heavy. FYI - Our consultant also believes slugs can live up at least 30 days on dead material so cover crop would need to be terminated real early to have any effect.

We have followed his recommendations and they seem to be working. We were getting tired of replanting many acres of full season soybeans so needed to try a different route and we are not willing to give up the early planting window.

Strip till did help this year also - as we do not have major feeding where we planted soybeans in the strip. Strips were created with a all demo/ rented all coulter soil warrior. Not sure if this will hold every year but this year it did.

We are trying to get away from full tillage in some circumstances but sometimes it does not work.
Good luck.
