Sad part is the reliance of gov funds is tied so tightly in ag that unless you take them you cannot be profitable.
Not true. I haven't taken any direct gov assistance in the 8 years that I have been farming. Profits have been good enough to get by and grow the balance sheet a lot. It can be done quite easily, you just can't have as much shiny new equipment and vehicles.
