Usb cord. One device.
Through a router, then any device on the router can find it.
Directly individually wirelessly to devices such as iPads.
Internet is coming through an iPad as a hotspot, but that isn’t really a router, it is individual hotspot to the internet for each device you have hotspoted.
So, how is he trying to connect the wife’s iPad to the printer exactly? Directly to the printer. Or through the hotspot internet?
Without a real router device, that last option might be giving the problems.
