NW MO | I had one at the cabin, it used propane. I had trouble with it throwing error codes multiple times before it'd finally stay on. Would do this repeatedly. It was only 4 years old.
A buddy had 3, but when building his new cabin, he's leaning towards tank water heater. His dad also had a full house tankless and had different problems with his - circuit boards mostly.
Also, if your power goes out, you won't have hot water with a tankless, where you would with tank. Not sure if that matters much as electricity is pretty stable these days.
