Dominican, punta cana area is one of the most affordable destinations. A lot of all inclusive with great beaches. I’m a bit of an adventurer so two of us farmers hired a cab to take us to Higuey. Larger town about 45 minutes away. Large Basilica cathedral there is gorgeous. The best part was going to the farmers market. Huge outdoor market everyone shops at. Gives you an eye opening experience on how the rest of the world lives. Open air with lots of chickens and meats all unrefrigerated. Came back next day and had the driver take us through sugarcane country. Still harvested by hand. Used the most beautiful oxen to haul wagons out of the field. Thousands of acres, no tens of thousands acres. Saw a huge ranch where a lot of the oxen were raised. Best experience of my life. Total abject poverty. It was like going back in time. They had train taking cane to the processer that had to have been 1800s vintage. This was a true example of working for the company store.
