I use Quickbooks for payroll. As many of you know, payroll only works if you have a version of Quickbooks that is no more than 3 years old.

The lowest version of Quickbooks desktop now available is Quickbooks Premier.

It's now $800/year. Then the payroll subscription is $500/year on top of that.

My accountant doesn't want to deal with Quickbooks online and I don't either.

My accountant doesn't want to deal with a different company but honestly, at some point I may be willing to deal with another accountant if they'll let me use software that isn't so ridiculously priced.

Realistically, if you want to deal with tax people who will actually save you money, you're probably stuck with Quickbooks but it sure does rub me wrong. It's like they've created a captive audience. I'd probably be happy to deal with a good ag accountant who used less expensive software just on the general principle of disliking Intuit at this point.

Look into the open source world - - - - I've been using ledger-cli for almost 10 years.
My accounts info file is some 40+ pages.
Reports are limited to your knowledge of how to write them.

YMMV
