The VA does a blood workup on me every year. They check a lot of things that they might deem necessary. They don't do diabetes related stuff because my Blood glucose is not high enough to indicate diabetes. They usually keep a partial vial of blood in case they should need to check for something that may come up. For instance, this year, we talked about my risk factors for thyroid problems and he ordered an analysis of thyroid markers. Happy to report it came back in the good range. I get about a three page printout of all the test results and their acceptable ranges. 
I'd talk with the doc and see if you can get a printout.
