Subject: RE: Heat source for dairy parlor

I don't know anything about how your parlor or holding pen is configured. If a portion of your holding pen is open to the elements, it's going to be difficult keeping heat in the parlor during milking. Consider off-the-wall options for containing this heat. Strip curtains were mentioned, but it takes time for cows to learn how to use them, and they're expensive. Also consider roll-up curtains across the holding pen as needed to contain the heat. Roll the curtain up all the way during the summer or when you need skid-steer access, roll it up halfway when cows are walking underneath, and roll it down to conserve heat when the holding pen is empty.

Use the heat of the cows as much as possible.
