If a portion of your holding pen is open to the elements, it's going to be difficult keeping heat in the parlor during milking. Consider off-the-wall options for containing this heat. Strip curtains were mentioned, but it takes time for cows to learn how to use them, and they're expensive. Also consider roll-up curtains across the holding pen as needed to contain the heat. Roll the curtain up all the way during the summer or when you need skid-steer access, roll it up halfway when cows are walking underneath, and roll it down to conserve heat when the holding pen is empty.
