So all these crop guesses are people driving by ,not walking in fields? In tough years the outside rows can be 75-100 bushels better than inside.



That saying is probably responsible for the record crop last year after the I's called it toast. I know bad corn. Never have I had a yield map where the outside ring around the field was better. The outside row or two might be better and then there are several rows that are some of the worst in the field and then you get into the normal ups and downs of the field based on soil types and such. From the road you'd think the whole field sucks because you can see those awful rows behind the first one or two greener outside rows. Now if you get into an extreme year (or normal depending on where you live) the outside rows especially south rows can be fryed before anything else.
