NW Washington
Peas love cool spring weather to grow and hot dry summers to cure and dry. Back in the 1960s Moscow, Idaho on the eastern edge of the Palouse hills used to brag about being the dry pea capital of the world. The University of Idaho laid off a plant science professor and he found a new job in Saskatchewan and he told the folks up there they should dry peas. Now Canada grows a lot of peas and not many peas are grown in the Palouse hills anymore. And Moscow took down their signs a long time ago.

"Dry pea has been grown in western Canada, primarily in Manitoba for over 80 years. However, production rarely exceeded 20,000 hectares. Dry pea production in Saskatchewan was less than 1000 hectares until 1971, but increased to 170,000 hectares by 1988"

A hectare is 2.47 acres
