Subject: Boiling up Thermostats...

coast of Maine
I was having a fluctuating digital heat gauge on a JD 7410.Very rapid from ok to red zone then diving back to green. Was confounded as radiator was cleaned ,tanks of antifreeze correct levels. So I and local equip tech thought sticking thermostat? maybe..so before testing local JD had them in stock so we drained block back, put new ones in,,when we refilled it took 2 more gallons than drained,,,hmmm,,wtf..So some sort of air lock in the system ?Well we better check the thermostats in the learned on NAT way,,,worked slick, cycled them 2 x ,boiling to room temp,,changed position actually fast.We ran tractor hard all day today no temp fluctuation...now I also have some clean used thermostats. So have others had any air lock issue with a 10 series system?
