Are the chains that are busting part of the transmission or are they part of the row units?
Is there a bearing out somewhere in the drive wheel that's getting into a bind when you lower the planter down?
I would also make sure your chain tightener is working correctly and not causing chains to be off-center and jumping or binding.
Any way you can post a picture of your transmission?
