I've had 2 apparently pregnant cows show heat this year. I read somewhere that means they're carrying a heifer, and the hormones from the calf are messing them up. The first one had a heifer, the second one is due today and looks like she could drop a calf any time in the next month.
How common is a “false heat” before calving?
