Sounds like you have the procedure right, after you save the file (make sure it has a .REG extension) just double click the file to have the entries entered into the registry. Does not matter where it is located.
You may want to backup your current
"[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders]" key with the registry editor (regedit) before you start. That way if it makes matters worse you can restore the key to it's current state.
