outside looking for more corn cobs | As long as neither wheel is hitting it's associated housing, the thrust bearings/bushings are fine.
Now, a turbo that's been dusted is a completely different story. That usually requires a minimum of a compressor wheel, and hopefully a complete turbo rebuild.
When you've got it wound out and under load, use a spray bottle with water and a little bit of soap to look for leaks between the turbo and the engine intake. It doesn't take much of a leak to really notice it in loss of power, fuel consumption, etc... A single pin hole leak (small enough that I couldn't hear or feel it) made a 10-15psi difference in a CAC system. It took soapy water to find that leak.
I assume this tractor has a aneroid(sp?) on the injection pump? Make sure the boost line to the aneroid, and the aneroid diaphragm itself, isn't leaking. That will make it take a long time to wind up. |
