just a tish NE of central ND | Will a 4"x4" peice of I beam a quarter inch thick support a 2 ton load (or possibly 3 ton) if it is suported only on the ends and the load is in the middle?It would be no longer than 10 foot, and probably only 9 foot long from end to end to the supports. I would like to use it for a portable overhead shop crane.The small dimension of the I beam is because I have limited head room above the I beam. The top and bottom of the I beam would lay horizontially and a trolley would be installed in the middle with rollers out 6-8 inches apart.
