Absolutely correct. Final crimp diameter is what counts. You can get into trouble when you start mixing hose ends and hose from different manufacturers as there are some strange hose sizes out there that don't coincide with SAE hose dimensions. Usually a 100R1 or 100R2 hose is pretty standard no matter who makes it. The Gates 601 crimper is a pretty generic crimper that works well with Jones, parker, aeroquip and just about any hose end that has internal bit type rings. Not as good for weatherhead, eastman or couplematic. These ends use more of a friction retention and tend to need the belled uncrimped ring that their specific dies make as this ring adds strength to the sleeve.
