Subject: Ed Winkle, DavidM, others. RE martin closing wheels

Dix (Boyd), IL

My dad made the drive to Ky yesterday to get a set of Martin spading closing wheels for our JD 1770nt corn planter.  I'm putting it all together now.  I've got the hubs in the wheels and about ready to mount them on the planter.  Question:  is there any reason to stagger the wheels, or should I use the front set of holes or the back set of holes on the planter.  Does it make any difference?

Also, in damp conditions (we still haven't planted any corn because of wet soil) will I likely need to start out with no down pressure on the closing wheels or the first notch?

 Thanks for your input.
