We have ran many thousands of acres over the years without a sieve, doing high moisture corn (Sieve kills shoe capacity at 30%!) and never had any problems with the shoe. We have even done a lot without a chaffer or sieve doing cob mix. I doubt very much that you will see any balance problems without the sieve. In fact, your shoe hangers/bushings may last longer - less weight being thrown around.
