I use a 1086 for my hay work and get along fine. I have a JD 1600 14' mower conditioner, and a NH BR740 Crop Cutter round baler. You can bale in hi 1 and that is about 6 miles per hour.
I would put the ISO coupler kits in the remotes if it hasn't been done yet. The kits were about $140 when I bought my 1086.
These tractors do ride rougher than I like, but being shorter helps turn in the hay. I would make sure you get at least 4 weights for the front. I have 5 and the front is a little light with the mower. I hope your hay fields aren't rough enough to worry about how the tractor rides in the field.
