If you have an Amsoil dealer close by they sell a flush that is run 20 min before changing over. It will not damage your engine. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/aef.aspx It does not smell like diesel and is a clear thin fluid. I have done at least 12 80-90,000 mile changeovers and have not had any that have had problems. I have all my vehicles set up on once a year changes.

This would be a good oil to start out on. You could use your OEM filter for one change then move to the better extended oil and the Amsoil filter after for the extended drain once you get a good run in with synthetic. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/xlf.aspx
