Never used the talc when we had JD planters, only a little graphite.  I just went by what a friend told me, and never had any problems.  I just sprinkled it on the top of the seed--never have mixed it into the seed at all.

Since then, I've switched to the CIH planter, but I'm still doing the same thing.
