This reeks of a Consumer Reports safety demand.   They got all up in arms after the Ford explorer thing where tire pressure specs were low, so it did not take much of a leak for the tire to fail and then some accidents, blamed on anything but the driver neglecting to check tire pressure.   So we have to have equipment to make up for our inept maintenance habits.   Now we have dash indicators for low coolant, low oil level, failed bulbs.   Only a matter of time before they figure out a way to determine incompetent driver and the car will then refuse to start.
