outside looking for more corn cobs | If you got to a MFG for cutoffs, you'll have to out-bid the scrap guy, if they'll even sell it. Many times they have a contract that excludes selling the scrap to anyone else.
If you're fairly good with wood and have a foundry local, you could make a pattern and take it to them for casting. As long as you don't want anything fancy, it shouldn't be too expensive. Just make sure the have a good relief angle on the sides to get the sand to come off, and don't make it with any holes in it. A solid piece is the easiest to cast, and 99% of the time it is cheaper.
