Lenawee Co Michigan | Hmmm...been quite a while, but if I remember right those had a 3 speed transmission with a hi/lo. The hi/lo changes when you throw the gearshift across the bottom of the quadrant, so it looks like 6 individual speeds plus reverse.
We had a 730 do that once. Somehow the gearshift lever engaged two gears at once, locking it up. We removed the cover with the gearshift on it, pushed the offending slider back into proper place, and it never happened again.
They're pretty simple. Once you have it open it should be obvious which slider is on the wrong detent.
