Dave, I used to have a Kinze and the service guy told me that the disk openers were heavier than the standard JD disk openers. (Not trying to start a JD/Kinze argument). I found it to be true. So they only wanted that ~1.5" contact instead of the "length of a business card" (strain on the bearings) I had gone with on my previous Deere. As long as you have those "heavy duty" disk openers I think you want to go with the ~1.5" contact. I am back to a JD now (1780...don't ask me why) and had the distinct pleasure of putting on new disk openers this spring. I set them all for the "length of a business card." Hope this helps.
