Subject: Kinze 3600: shimming disk openers

I've had a few disk opener bearings go out, and in checking it over think I've got too much blade contact...like 2 1/2" instead of the 1 1/4" the manual specifies.

I can't seem to get this through my head: I thought with wear I should get less contact, not more? The manual talks about moving shims from the inside to the outside as wear occurs. Even with a new blade and bearing, I'm having to add 2 or 3 shims to get down to 1 1/2" contact. My blade diameter is still darn close to the 15" original (nothing under 14 7/8" so far), everything else seems right and tight.

Am I missing something? Thanks in advance, Dave
