Subject: Re: 4450 head gasket seeping

So. IL
Dad has a 4430 that he bought with a broken head bolt.

Ran it that way for ten plus years without any incident. No leaks, no problems.

While washing it last spring we found another bolt broken. Pulled it in the shed and removed the valve covers to find a third bolt broken. Mind you still no leaking or other detectable head gasket problems at this point.

Removed two of the broken studs with the head still on. Had to pull the head to remove the third.

Cleaned it up. Installed a new head gasket, three new bolts and replaced the radiator which had been seeping. Ran fine all last year.

It got an underhaul around 7,500 hours and is nearing 9,000 hours. Will continue to monitor.
