Just how many acres/bu. are you in need of transporting?

You said "not many acres," but that is a relative term. To some that is anything under 50, to other that's anything less than 5,000.

And yes, a semi-truck is probably your best bet. You're not hauling all that far, but I know all-to-well about working off-the-farm full time, and trying to get stuff hauled. In our case that was bales. Went from hauling 8 bales at a time every night with a pick-up truck, to 28 at a time twice a weekend with a semi. Don't need a fancy truck for 20 miles, just reliable. I'm sure 15k could easily get a decent enough semi for your needs.
