Subject: John Deere 6430

WCIL
I am posting a question for my husband.
I purchased a 4 cy JD 6430 in May. (standard engine, nat a multivalve, 98 HP, not MFWD, turbocharger and intercooled,) This tractor replaced a JD 4030 six cylinder, naturally aspired.
I am disappointed with the fuel concuption. I seem to be using 16% more fuel to do the same work. It pulls a 1200 gallon field sprayer, hauls corn and chores. The 6430 currently has 150 hours.
This winter it is throwing soot on to the hood and engine oil seems to look very dark very quick. It sounds okay. Power seems great.
I can't get any efficiency numbers from JD and has not yet been Nebraska tested JD will not give me their own numbers. Company man looked at tractro last week and made no conclusions. He wants us to put more hours on tractor and then talk again.
I am interested in any others experience with this tractor. For me the 6430 tractor is a field tractor, for most, it would be a chore tractor.
