NW Iowa | The price difference between 52-40 and 52-47 is approximately $40 per unit or $16 per acre, which is the cost of an insecticide treatment. If it was $60 to $75 an acre like you suggest, then the price per bag difference would be $150 to $187.50 which is not the case. Last time I checked a bag plants 2.4 to 2.5 acres. As far as needing 100 bu. per acre to make up the cost for traits like haymaker suggests at $3.00, then my math tells me the price difference between a conventional and VT3 must be $750. Again a bag plants roughly 2.5 acres, multiply that by 100 bu. per acre and that equals 250 bu. At $3.00 per bushel, that equals $750. Sometimes I wonder where you people come up with your figures.
Here's a little quiz: At $5 corn, 1.4% shrink, and $.065 for drying, What is the price difference per bag if you planted brand A and it yielded 180 bu. per acre @ 15% hauled to elevator, and you had brand B that yielded 180 bu. per acre @ 16% and hauled to the elevator. Figure a bag plants 2.5 acres. | |
