I don't know about alfalfa,but here in east Texas we spray roundup and 24D before greenup on our bermuda grass to kill the ryegrass and any other cool season grass or weeds that has come up over winter and it lets the bermuda grass get a good earlier start and get ahead of the weeds.HTH
