| It is hard to believe that after the weather disaster we experienced in west Tennessee this year (maybe it was just that bad in Haywood County) that land rents would be pushing over $200 per acre. It is fair to say that all crops in my county are substantially below average for 2007. Yields like cotton at 350 to 500#, corn at 85 BPA, soybeans at 15 to 20 BPA, and wheat at 25 to 30 BPA, will not encourage farmers here to bid up available land for next year. If anything, I won't be surprised to hear of farmers downsizing their operations instead. Its going to be a long winter around here. | |
